Almost every sound on this site is synthesized in the browser from a score, and is the work of this project. Nothing is sampled and nothing is loaded from anywhere else.
The one exception is the modem handshake.

Every other sound on this site is synthesized in the browser from a short score written for it: the door chimes, the blip a new line makes, and the sign-off tones. The rooms, the regulars who talk in them and every line they say were written for this site. The comet mark and the icon set are drawn on a sixteen-by-sixteen pixel grid in the source, and the share card is generated from that same grid. No photograph, no stock image and no downloaded font is used anywhere; the lettering is Verdana, Georgia and Courier New, which were on the machine in 1996 and are on yours now.
Lines typed by earlier visitors may be replayed to later ones. They are those visitors' own words, moderated before they are kept, and are not credited to anybody by name beyond the screen name they were typed under. The addresses a regular sometimes mentions point at Culdesac (culdesac.site), a directory of small sites that is a separate project.
The same credit appears inside the simulation, on the Help screen you reach from the sign-on screen, the room list, or from inside any room. This page exists so the attribution can be read without connecting or browsing, which is what an attribution licence asks for.
